Beginning in the 11th century, the religious centre of the aljama was located in the so-called "Old Morería", replacing the main mosque from the al-Andalus period. It was a far more modest mosque than the previous one, possibly lacking a minaret and a patio in which to perform ablutions, since the Caños Viejos fountain performed this function.
In 1561, Gaspar Dávila, the council’s public notary, purchased a plot of land "where formerly stood an almagil of the Moors at present, on a site which is at the top of el Pozacho in the parish of Sant Andrés".
The city’s residents gathered daily to pray in the "almagil" or mosque (al-masjid in Arabic) and to attend the khutbah or Friday sermon. It is likely children received some kind of education here too.
Some scholars have speculated that the *Mudejar mosque may have been located elsewhere, such as the present-day locations of the churches of San Nicolás or San Pedro, whose respective towers may have served as minarets. Nevertheless, it has been determined that they were always intended as churches. This same theory could be applied to any of Madrid's medieval parishes.

No surviving remains. However, its approximate location is known thanks to a document from 1561 describing the purchase of a plot of land on the top of el Pozacho where the mosque was most likely located.
